Essential Question Reflection by 2 gees

Our Essential question that we choose to write about is :
What are my rights? How do i defend them?

This essential question is the most interesting question to us because, we think its important to know your rights as Americans. We also had fun doing activities on this question like the matrix that we did on The Constitution.

Daouda: Yo, you don't know how to find nothing in The Constitution
Allan: Yes i do you just don't help.

The essential question was first just something we thought was going to be regular and easy but, it turned out that we had to memorize a lot of stuff and it was more interesting learning the bill of rights and what they really mean.

Allan: My favorite Amendment is number 9 which is The right to have other rights not listed in the constitution.
Daouda: My favorite Amendment was the right to bear arms #2

HOW WE GREW:

Daouda: I grew a lot because, i didn't know what the constitution was and now i know Amendments 1-15. Also because, now i know my rights and how to use them.

Allan: I grew because at first i didn't know what any of the amendments were but now i memorize 1-15 amendments and i know what they mean.

Essential Question Poem:

What are my rights?
I don't know gee
But mr. locker can you show me.

I have the right to hold a gun
And the right of speech says amendment #1

Hold up son
We ain't done

Cops have the right to search and arrest
We have the right to not house a soldier like a guest

Theres alot of amendments so i'll save my breath
And tell mr.locker to teach you the rest lol

Ok guys we had fun but now guess what
Were DONE

Allan and Daouda (Writing life on gees)

This whole school year we did a lot of writing. Taking a lot of notes on social studies and ELA. But this year in humanities we think we improved a lot on our writing. We both had a lot of practice from humanities writing essays and test (EWA'S), especially the DBQ. Mr. Locker pushed 802 and 803 to work their hardest on writing. Allan thinks that he is a master at writing and daouda just think he is a god at writing but both of us don't write very good.
Allan: I like writing stories, it's the only kind of writing I'm good at.
Daouda: I like writing. I enjoy it.
Our fa
vorite place to write is communication arts. We love writing poems and it is very fun to us instead of doing test prep. Daouda's poems always rhyme. Allan's poems are very sensetive but he doesn't like to share them. Both of us have talent in writing and often use it. Especially on Aim. This whole year was reading and writing. Before we were beginners but now we have more skills in writing. We have a lot of different ways to write. Rapping, poems, essays, short stories, instant messaging, etc.

Daouda Doesn't like reading either

I always hated reading. I still don't like reading but i have to do it. But this whole year i feel like i have grown as a reader. At the beginning of the year i use to stutter a lot when i read. I still stutter but not as much. My goal that i had in the beginning of the year was to read a lot faster. I don't think i met my goal but i feel better as a reader

My favorite book that i read this year was "The Ou
tsiders." I'm really not sure why i like this book so much. When the class read that book together that's when i really understood how i was suppose to read. Ever since then i have been able to read a lot better. But in conclusion I feel a lot better with reading then i did in the beginning of the year.

Allan don't like reading

All my life i had talent in reading. I knew how to pronounce every word i saw. Sometimes it was bad because, even though i knew how to say the word, i didnt know what it ment. I learned how to read when i was 4 years old so i started school early. Like most kids i never enjoyed reading. It was so dull to do for me. If i was reading, i would start to think about other things i could be doing like hanging out with friends, playing a sport, or bagging a girl.

I knew i had this talent but i didn't want anyone to know just in case anyone would ask me to read something for them because, i will admit i am very lazy when it comes to work. What really made me get tired of reading was the book clubs i got put into. Every time i got into a level z book club i was pissed.
They were so boring and i didn't like the books they read. So what summarizes what kind of a reader i am is i am a good reader but i don't like to read.

But all of this
changed a couple of months into the 8th grade. At first when Mr. Locker said we had to read 50 books i never thought i could do that. Then in about February i noticed that i liked only certain books. Maybe it was the genre i thought. I realized it was the way the book was written and different styles. The book that made me realize that was "what my mother doesn't know." It was a really good i read about 3 times. Then other books people recomm-ended like a "a child called it" was good too. Now i know how to pick out books i like much better and learned this from Mr. Locker's help and practice In independent reading.
This is how i started reading more. I even read read at night and never used to do that. I will definitely pick out books more carefully in my future. A reason for that is because i can enjoy reading and not only reading a message on aim. This is a good idea for people who also have my old problem because it can really help you to start reading books you enjoy.
